VALUE OF CRAFTSMANSHIP

The NZ Beech ceiling at my Avonhead high performance house is progressing well. The care and attention paid by the carpenters on site is paying dividends and is a sight to behold.

The builders know they are working on something special. The clients know they are getting a house with real craftsmanship. As the architect, in a world of mass production these things are important to me.

The valley is proving tricky. While the Rondo steel suspended ceiling is accurate there is a slight difference in pitch each side of the valley. Also the timber boards vary a little in width as expected of a sawn timber.

To deal with this it has been decided to rip the boards down as this removes any minor difference in length of the diagonal cut as the boards turn the corner at the valley.

The way the boards have been cut around the steel cross tie is also impressive.

While there is one older guy on site the rest of the team are young guys who have real skill as well. They are enjoying in their words "real carpentry instead of installing windows".

Building projects are successful when you have a great team of Architect, Builder and Client. I really enjoying working on this project as the team has come together and is achieving something special.

Want to achieve something special with your build come and talk to me.
