In our Avonhead high performance house we have designed a timber batten ceiling which needed to be suspended below the SIP. This was done for two reasons.
1 - To provide a duct space for mechanical heat recovery ventilation MHRV ducting.
2 - We also wanted to hide the steel truss rafters and only expose the collar tie.
Note the steel is within the thermal envelope to eliminate thermal bridge
As the ceiling is timber battens not plaster board we needed design advice.
We called Rondo and their engineers sorted it out for us and provided full documentation. This is a fantastic service. They provided details for fixing the suspended ceiling to the OSB skin of the SIP and bracing as we were not using a sheet material which would largely do this as it is restrained at the edge.
To fix the decorative silver beech 45x20 cavity battens will be screwed to the metal ceiling battens. The beech will be panel pinned to the cavity battens.
To hide the suspended ceiling system and services a black scrim will be placed above the beech which will have a gap between each batten.
To help with acoustic absorbance we specified terralana 35mm wool batts which were cut to size in factory and this is simply stapled to the SIP.
