I don't normally like to have a bedroom door open directly off the main entrance to a home as the transition from public to private is too abrupt.
In my Avonhead high performance house the master suite is accessed directly from the entrance which links it to the main house. The solution to deal with privacy was to design a secret door clad in the same timber as the adjacent walls.
My clients love the child like adventure of accessing their private space by simply pushing the wall to reveal their bedroom. This is an adult Narnia moment.
The entrance has a polished concrete floor with walls and low ceilings in Abodo Wood Ltd Vulcan shiplap with a brushed finish.
The exterior cladding is the same timber but with a bandsaw finish to hold oil. The brushed finish is a beautiful texture and just invites itself to be touched.
The ceiling wall junction has an LED strip which provides the only lighting to the space.
This sort of detailing isn't successful without quality craftsmen and the guys at John Garlick Builders have done an incredible job. When closed the door is invisible.
