Prolam posts installed yesterday at our Avonhead high performance home

We love using glue laminated timber as it stays nice and straight.

These posts are 135mm square and we get them band sawn which removes 3mm each side so they reduce down to 129mm square. At this size and band sawn they look so much better than 100mm square rough sawn posts which twist and crack and look like match sticks.

There are three reason we band saw the timber.

1 - To help disguise the laminate glue lines and finger jointing.

2 - To give a better surface for oil or stain.

3 - To match the finish with the timber cladding. In this case it will be Abodo Wood Ltd Vulcan.
